About SYEP

The NYC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.

Through SYEP, participants can explore different interests and career pathways, develop productive workplace habits, and engage in learning experiences that strengthen their social, civic, and leadership skills.

By participating in structured projects and work-based opportunities, SYEP participants are better prepared for careers of the future.

Who Are SYEP Participants?

SYEP participants are highly motivated and talented NYC youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are interested in pursuing careers in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. They are selected through a lottery and interviews may be available upon request.

For employers, SYEP adds value by:

  • • Connecting them with hyperlocal NYC talent at no cost
  • • Fostering coaching and mentorship skills in current employees
  • • Easing the workload of current employees
  • • Offering a fresh perspective to problem solving
  • • Providing opportunities to be directly involved in NYC’s economic recovery
